About Mr. Rectenwald:
Theodore (Ted) Rectenwald is an international professional with well over three decades of work experience in more than thirty countries across Africa, Latin America, the Balkans, and the Middle East, culminating in assignments with the United Nations revolving around humanitarian affairs and human rights program management and policy. Fluent in French and Portuguese, he has worked in emergency relief, recovery, and development activities, often in active conflict or post-conflict situations. He has enjoyed a variety of assignments with private voluntary organizations, as well as public international organizations. After an early retirement from the United Nations, he returned to his native Pittsburgh, where he taught at La Roche University for three years as a Visiting Professor, before joining Central’s faculty this year.
Ted graduated from the University of Pittsburgh summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, with a double major in history and literature, in addition to Undergraduate Certificates in Medieval & Renaissance Studies and in Latin American Studies. He was also recognized for the Outstanding Undergraduate Paper on Latin America and served as a Chancellor's Undergraduate Teaching Fellow in Latin American history. Ted subsequently took a Master of International Management degree at the Thunderbird School of Global Management at ASU, where he conducted research on Brazilian current affairs as the recipient of assistantship, before embarking on an international career.
