CCFS Alumni Network Treasurer’s Report: 2021 Campaign
Greetings to my CCFS alumni brethren both near and far. Having been recently installed as the “treasurer” for this elite body of pontificators, I think our fall newsletter is the perfect time to take inventory financially on where we are, and more importantly, where we are going financially as an organization through your collective support.
In December of 2020, the ad hoc alumni group began the quiet phase of what would become a dual-track campaign to support the ongoing operations of the society. With input from many distinguished alumni, we announced in early March of 2021 a goal of raising funds for two vehicles designed to support and sustain the CCFS:
- The Brother Kevin Dalmasse Memorial Endowment
- The Brother Rene Sterner, FSC “Angels Fund”
The Brother Kevin endowment fund is a strategic long-term financial vehicle, whereby funds contributed would be invested and gains on investment principal (after 3 years) would be made available for the ongoing cash needs of the CCFS program. The Principal invested would remain untouched. This approach provides a more predictable cash-flow mechanism for the team on a year-to-year basis, with investment earnings disbursements targeted to begin (roughly) in the 2024-2025 school year.
The Sterner “Angels Fund” provides for the more immediate cash flow needs of the team, augmenting the annual team activities funds provided by Central Catholic to support the CCFS each school year. This funding is needed to support the significant growth of the team in recent years (and the significant competitive success that we’ve all enjoyed). The Angels fund will help to fund coaching salaries, travel-tournament costs, and the expense of bringing large numbers of qualifying competitors to the NSDA/NFL and CFL national tournaments.
For some context, had the CCFS 2020-2021 competitive season (absent COVID-19) been a more “traditional” travel year (i.e. our students attending both regional and national tourneys), the CCFS school activities budget to cover travel costs to the two national tournaments would have been exceeded by more than $23,000. As such, the Sterner “Angels Fund” will be critical in helping us keep this CCFS train financially on the rails while we continue to build-up the Dalmasse CCFS endowment fund for longer-term capital needs.
As of September 2021, we have received $67,000 in pledges for the “Angels” Fund ($33,525 of which have been paid) and $94,130 in pledges for the Brother Kevin Endowment fund, ($41, 605 of which have been paid. Thanks to all who have contributed.
The creation of a CCFS Alumni Network Board will allow us to set goals and develop a strategy for ongoing financial support for the CCFS. As we embark on a new season of forensics, please join me in continuing your valued financial support as we seek to both sustain and grow the CCFS for current and future generations of deserving young men.
