PITTSBURGH – Central Catholic High School has named Matthew J. Stoessel the school's new President. Stoessel is a 1995 graduate and has been Executive Director of Advancement since 2017. He has served as Interim President since June.
Following a search led by Central Catholic’s Board of Directors and the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s Secretariat for Education, under the leadership of Superintendent of Catholic Schools Michelle Peduto, the Board voted unanimously in favor of appointing Stoessel to the position. “Without hesitation, the Central Catholic Board of Directors voted unanimously in favor because we believe Matt is fully committed to the success of Central Catholic and is determined to lead us into our 100th year and beyond,” says John Staley V, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
The Most Reverend David A. Zubik, Bishop of Pittsburgh, and the board of the Catholic High Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh made the final decision. In a letter, Bishop Zubik said, “I am confident that Matt will continue to build upon the fine tradition of excellence that has always been a hallmark at Central Catholic High School.” Bishop Zubik continued, “I know Matt understands the importance of forming young men in the faith and guiding them to excel in service and leadership.”
The President's primary purpose is to provide institutional leadership of the school to achieve the fullest attainment of Central Catholic’s mission statement. The President bears responsibility for the school’s operation and policies, concentrating primarily on its Catholic and Lasallian identity. In his role, Stoessel is responsible for ensuring sound fiscal management and the school's long-term financial stability through direct oversight of the business operations, facilities, fundraising/development, marketing, alumni and community relations, student recruitment, and enrollment management activities.
