Two seniors from Central Catholic High School, have been volunteering to help collect donated produce at the Squirrel Hill Farmer's Market each week.
This interview originally appeared in the October 2017 issue of the Squirrel Hill Community Food Pantry newsletter.
Chase and Marco, seniors from Central Catholic High School, have been volunteering to help collect donated produce at the Squirrel Hill Farmer's Market each week, and we wanted to take a moment to introduce them. If you've stopped by the farmer's market and noticed these two young men talking about the Pantry and asking for donations, now you can learn a little bit more about them!
Why did you decide to volunteer?
C: I needed hours for school and my mom found this pantry for me to reach out to. I came once and really liked it, so I decided to keep coming.
M: Chase invited me to volunteer with him and I also needed volunteer hours. I thought it was fun so I wanted to keep coming.
Why did you choose the Squirrel Hill Community Food Pantry?
C: I've volunteered at other pantries packaging food and thought this one would be a good place. I like the farmer's market because I'm outside and can interact with people.
What are your interests and hobbies?
C: I play football and currently I enjoy volunteering for the Squirrel Hill Community Food Pantry.
M: I like sports and am on the debate team at school.
What do you like most about volunteering at the farmer's market?
C: I'm outside, interacting with all kinds of people all day and I get to learn about making financial decisions when I shop for produce.
M: I like getting to hang out with Chase while seeing how generous people are. It makes me feel good about people in general.
What would you both like to do once you graduate?
C: I'm not sure which college yet, but I'd like to go for Business and Environmental Science.
M: I hope to attend Georgetown and major in International Political Economy and Business.
Thank you so much for taking time out of your Sundays to volunteer for the Pantry, Chase and Marco!
