Leonardo Capone, ’16, continues the family tradition of marching in a drum and bugle corps.
Leonardo Capone, ’16, continues the family tradition of marching in a drum and bugle corps. He auditioned on trumpet and will be marching this summer with the Cadets2, an all age corps that is based in Allentown, PA, one of the top drum corps in the country. Drum corps has been a part of Leonardo's family, as he is now a fourth generation corps performer.
Thomas Capone, ’71 (right), Leonardo's father, marched with the Pittsburgh Rockets from 1967-1974 and with the Steel City Ambassadors from 1983-1990. Leonardo's grandfather, Joseph Capone (left), began his marching career with the Seckatary Hawkins drum corps in 1936. After serving in WWII, he returned to drum corps, marching with the Rockets and directed them for 20 years. Joseph was inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 1980. His father and Leonardo's great-grandfather, Florindo Achille Capone, marched in a WWI veterans corps and started the Sons of American Legion drum and bugle corps in the late 1930's. Leonardo feels proud to continue the family tradition, and he cannot wait to take the field with his corps in the summer.
