Central Catholic High School to conduct an evacuation drill on Tuesday, April 14
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, April 9, 2015 – Central Catholic High School will conduct a campus-wide evacuation drill on Tuesday, April 14th. As the drill will temporarily disrupt traffic flow, it was recommended that we alert the local media that THIS IS A DRILL and NOT AN ACTUAL EMERGENCY.
Officers from the Pittsburgh Police Department and Carnegie Mellon University are very supportive of this drill and will provide a strong police presence to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff.
Shortly after 2nd period begins (9 a.m.), students and faculty will evacuate the building to Central Catholic’s football field. The police have advised us to exit the school’s parking lot on Neville St., cross to the other side of Fifth Avenue, and proceed to Rodef Shalom. Police officers will be blocking off traffic on Fifth Ave from Neville St. to Morewood Avenue during this time. We will be at Rodef Shalom for only a few minutes to address the students before heading back to class. The drill will last until approximately 9:45 a.m.
While this drill will not account for every possible scenario, it will be good practice and help to orient students as to the location of Rodef Shalom if they had to get there in a true emergency situation.
