Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last night, one of our freshmen football team members reported to Central Catholic that he tested positive for COVID-19. He was last on campus on Saturday, July 18, 2020. The student was asymptomatic.
No other freshman coach or freshman football player has shown symptoms. As part of the contact tracing protocol, anyone who has close contact with an infected person must self-quarantine for 14 days from the time of last exposure. Members of the freshman football team and coaches have been advised to self-quarantine until Saturday, August 1. Freshmen football team members are prohibited from coming to Central Catholic for any reason.
This case has not been traced back to the varsity football support staff member who previously tested positive. The freshmen football team and Varsity/JV football teams do not practice together.
Symptoms of COVID-19 may include, but are not limited to, fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, or new loss of taste or smell. We recommend that you review the guidelines from the CDC and contact your health care professional with questions or if your child shows signs of any symptoms listed above.
As a part of our COVID-19 summer high school sports safety protocol, each coach and athlete is required to pass a health screen and temperature check each day. The safety of our community is our top priority. Common areas including restrooms, weight rooms and locker rooms as well as equipment are cleaned and sanitized daily. We are following the safety requirements as put forth by the CDC, PA State Department of Health and the PIAA.
We will continue to keep our community informed in these ever-changing times.
