Support the Lenten Mission Drive Online!
Each year, the Lenten Mission helps raise funds for our Lasallian twin school in Kenya, as well as here locally. We typically raise funds in school, but this year we need your support online!
The Child Discovery Center (CDC) serves street and very poor children in Nakuru, Kenya. Out of the 50 children it currently serves, 33 live at CDC, while 10 are in the outreach program and live with their families, three attend and reside at universities, three are in college and live at hostels near the college, and one attends and resides at St. Mary’s Secondary School in Nyeri, Kenya, another ministry in the twinning program. CDC enrolls the children in school, pays school fees, and buys uniforms, books and other supplies. Since the CDC program started in 2000, it has served more than 500 children.
The CDC is Central Catholic's Lasallian "twin"school and each year, they rely on donations from the Lenten Mission Drive to support the school.
Saint Mary of Mercy Church, which is located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, provides several kinds of assistance to people in need. The "oldest" of Saint Mary's services is The Red Door Ministry, which began during the Great Depression.
This program normally provides lunches for 100 people Monday through Saturday. Currently, Father Chris Donley, '97 and Father Joe Freedy are preparing over 200 lunches daily during the COVID-19 outbreak.
