Quiz Bowl Team Wins Hometown High-Q Championship
On Saturday, July 7, 2018, the Central Catholic Quiz Bowl Team consisting of Xander Nese, '20, Zeke Stuart, '19, and Simon Sweeney, '19, defeated reigning champions Winchester Thurston in the Hometown High-Q Championship game.
Congratulations to the Central Catholic Quiz Bowl team on winning the KDKA Hometown High-Q Championship! The championship game aired on Saturday, July 7, 2018 on KDKA.
Centra Catholic defeated the two other finalists, Winchester Thurston and Yough School District, with a final score of 535 points. The team received a grand prize of $4,000 that will help fund student activities throughout the year.
Throughout the year, students on the Quiz Bowl team meet weekly to watch past shows and compete in practice questions with a buzzer system. Scores are kept during each practice session, and each player’s progress is tracked throughout the year.
The team participate as one team of three players when competing on Hometown High-Q. Hometown High-Q is aired weekly at 11 a.m. Saturday mornings on KDKA-TV.
