Injury Treatment
Your student's safety is our number 1 priority. Sometimes, a sports injury may need to be escalated. Below find information on our orthopedic injury and concussion protocols.
Orthopedic Injuries
If your son sustains an orthopedic injury, he may be directed to be evaluated by an orthopedic physician or surgeon. Because of Central Catholic and UPMC's contractual agreement, Central Catholic athletes are given expedited scheduling. Your certified athletic trainer will be able to make those arrangements for you.
Concussions
If you think your son has sustained a concussion, you should have your son evaluated by the Certified Athletic Trainer. Concussions are a serious injury that cannot be “seen.” A concussion can occur when an athlete receives a traumatic blow or jolt to the head or body. A concussion is a metabolic or energy crisis in the brain.
If you think your son has sustained a concussion, you son should not take part in any activity until evaluated by a qualified medical professional. The UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program is an evidence-based leading clinical program in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Central Catholics’ Certified Athletic Trainer can help make arrangements to be seen.
The UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program can be reached by calling 412-432-3681.
Central Catholic works directly with local physicians for escalated injuries.
