The Masque

As the premier musical theatre troupe of Central Catholic and Oakland Catholic, the Masque presents two fully-staged productions each year. Singers, dancers, and actors are encouraged to participate as members of the cast, and those interested in production can work with sets, costumes, props, and microphones as a member of the crew. Over the years, the Masque has earned a reputation for being among the top high school theatre groups in the Pittsburgh region. Performances are held in the beautiful Central Catholic High School McGonigle Theater.

About The Show:

Godspell is based primarily on the Gospel According to Matthew. Featuring a sparkling, seminal score by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell boasts a string of recognizable songs, led by the international hit, "Day By Day." As the cast makes its way through the show, we, as audience members, get to see the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life. The show also touchingly presents the story of Jesus' last moments, beginning with the Last Supper. The main story of Godspell, however, is portrayed in the show's subtext--in the way the players interact with their leader, coming together to create a loving community. Stephen Schwartz describes the essence of the show as: "A group of disparate people slowly become a community built around one charismatic individual (Jesus), who then leaves them, and they have to carry on as a community without him."
